My approach to the figure incorporates an awareness that we are one of many. I draw upon the infinite resource of individuals encountered: sometimes real; sometimes imagined; sometimes I’m unsure. I also find unlimited inspiration from Devotional Art (particularly Roman Catholic), the school of Magical Realism, and classical sculpture of ancient Greece and Rome.
All figures are hand built using earthenware clay and fired in an electric kiln. The surface is achieved with additional firings using a variety of ceramic colorants and glazes.
Collecting, gathering, and repurposing is a lifelong tenet. It was therefore natural and predetermined that I incorporate found objects with my work. This enables me to accentuate how far we go to be perceived as individuals when, in fact, we are one of many.
